HOUSTON – A man was fatally shot and two cars were struck by bullets along the Southwest Freeway frontage road early Thursday.

According to the Houston Police Department, patrol officers responded to a call around 5 a.m. about a shooting in the 6900 block of the Southwest Freeway.

When they arrived, they found a car abandoned and peppered with bullets on the service road median.

Cars drove by on the Southwest Freeway, but investigators focused on the abandoned Crown Royal and used markers to track the bullets' paths.

Sadly, detectives said, one of those bullets killed Martin Cardenas, 30, who was driving on the feeder road after a night out.

"There was an argument in a club at Babee'Os between the victim and a group in the parking lot," said Sgt. John Parker, with HPD Homicide division. "We're just trying to piece back what the argument was or even if that argument has anything to do with it."

The victim's friend was also at Babee'Os with him and the two left together, but in separate cars. Shortly after that, another vehicle pulled alongside both cars and fired.

The victim's friend wasn't hurt, but his car was hit and he swerved out of the way and stopped at a Citgo gas station along the feeder road.

"The witnesses give us information regarding a vehicle but not a type or color at this point. And I have no suspect information," said Parker.

The investigation is ongoing and detectives are speaking with several witnesses to try and put together a suspect description.

Anyone with information can call Houston Police Department Homicide at 713-308-3600 or Houston Crime Stoppers at 713-222-TIPS.
