Southwest CDC's 'Family Bliss Package' to help promote family bonding

SINGAPORE: The Southwest Community Development Council is setting aside S$500,000 to promote family bonding in the South West district. The sum will be used to set up what is called the Family Bliss Package, which will help create a pro-family environment in the district.

Mayor of the South West District, Ms Low Yen Ling, spoke about the benefits of the package. She said: "Families can find corners, space, facilities within South West District that is very pro-family, that is very conducive for them to come together, relax, learn, play, hang out as a family. So with all this, this is to really catalyse family bonding and family ties.

"Through our 'Adopt' series of initiatives, we will continue to work with the community and also corporate stakeholders to bring some of these pro-family initiatives and activities to the vulnerable families, so that children of such families will also be able to enjoy such activities as a community."

Another of the South West District's initiatives, the Baby Blisscard, has been successful, said Ms Low. The card is a limited edition cashcard with a stored value of S$38, and is given to babies and parents living in the South West District. It also serves as a privilege card where discounts are given by participating merchants selling baby products.

So far, more than 7,600 children have received the card.

Ms Low said the next 1,000 newborns will receive a personalised and limited edition SG50 Baby Blisscard featuring their name and photograph. "Local grassroots advisers will present the Baby Blisscard to the newborns and their family at family events at their convenience in their neighbourhood. It will be a joyous occasion where the community welcomes the newborn and their arrival in the South West District," added Ms Low.
