Detroit — Five people gathered in a street on the city's southwest side were shot early Tuesday morning.

Police, still trying to work out the scenario, say none of the wounds were life threatening. The incident occurred early Tuesday morning in the 3000 block of Annabelle in an area southeast of Fort and between West Outer Drive and Schaefer.

At this point, police are trying to determine if the shooting happened within the group or came from a passing white van. Based on the number of casings scattered around, police are also trying to determine how many weapons were involved.

According to police, the five victims included three females and two males, all between the ages of 19 and 22. The two males, ages 19, were shot in the elbow and the hand. One woman was shot in the back while another received a grazing wound. It's unknown where the fifth victim was hit.

Mentoria Brazill was sound asleep when she received a frantic phone call from her mother saying her brother had been wounded in a drive-by shooting.

The message enraged her.

"I lost my son in a drive-by shooting two years ago," Brazill said. "I'm so irate. I feel like confronting whoever did this and taking their heads off."

Brazill, who declined to identify her brother, said he was one of a group of five who had peacefully gathered outside the well-kept home on Annabelle to celebrate the birthday of a friend.

"Then people just drove up and started shooting up the celebration," Brazill said. "These are all innocent people who didn't do nothing to get shot ... but they did get shot."

According to Brazill, the attack occurred at about midnight.

"When I arrived, there were three or four police cars on the scene," Brazill said. "People said it was a gold-colored Rendezvous that did the shooting."

Police on Tuesday morning continued to work the scene.

"Blessings that you recover," Brazill said, raising her hand in the air. "You weren't supposed to be hit, baby."
