Marysa Wilkinson pounded 18 kills and teammate Allie Davis added 15 to lead Class A No. 3 Lincoln Southwest to a 25-23, 25-20, 23-25, 18-25, 15-12 home volleyball victory against No. 4 Grand Island on Tuesday night.
The Silver Hawks (12-4) turned back the Islanders’ bid to come back from a two-set deficit by sprinting to a 7-3 fifth-set lead they never relinquished. Grand Island (15-7) got as close as 13-12 on a kill by Madison Huismann, but Southwest closed out the match on a Wilkinson kill off a quick set from Madison Egger and a double-block from Egger and Callie Meyer on match point.
Egger had 43 assists to go with three kills and two assists. Libero Jill Bax paced the Southwest back-row play with 34 digs.
Southwest survived the 1-2 punch of Islander outside hitters Ashton Riedy and Sierra Peterson, who finished with 25 and 24 kills, respectively. McKenzie Fyfe sparked the Grand Island offense with 54 assists.
