A landscaper using a hedge trimmer died Wednesday when the equipment touched a power line carrying 7,000 volts.
“The man was killed instantly,” said Lt. Rich Chatman, a spokesman for the Portland Fire Bureau.
Chatman said the man was working for a private landscape contractor in the Hillsdale area on Southwest Richardson Street.
“He was in his early 30s,” Chatman said, adding the man’s name will be released later Wednesday.
Chatman said the hedge was about 20 feet tall.
“He was on a ladder using a pole with a saw attached to one end,” Chatman said. “He touched a residential distribution line carrying power down the street.”
