State trooper shoots man, 20, in southwest Atlanta - Atlanta Journal Constitution

A Georgia State Patrol trooper shot an armed man in southwest Atlanta late Friday morning after a chase of a stolen car.

State Patrol spokesman Gordy Wright said that about 10:20 a.m., the trooper’s license plate reader identified a 2011 Acura on Ga. 166 near Barge Road as being stolen.

When the trooper tried to stop the car, the driver fled into a neighborhood off Barge Road and onto Susan Lane.

“Susan Lane ends in a cul-de-sac, and the fleeing vehicle circled the cul-de-sac while the trooper attempted to block the path of the vehicle,” Wright said in an email. “The fleeing vehicle hit the patrol car head-on.”

Wright said that as the trooper got out of his car, one of the men in the Acura climbed out the passenger window.

“While the trooper was taking the violator to the ground, the violator pulled a revolver from his waistband,” Wright said. “At this point, the trooper fired his service weapon, striking the violator.”

The suspect, Alexander Streeter, 20, of Columbus, was taken to Grady Memorial Hospital for treatment. He was conscious and alert, Wright said.

The other man in the Acura, 21-year-old Dvante Pollard of Columbus, was also taken into custody. Wright said both men have several warrants for their arrest in Columbus.

Charges from Friday’s incident are pending, he said. The trooper was placed on standard administrative leave.
