Southwest flight experienced bird strike - My Fox Boston

MANCHESTER, N.H. (MyFoxBoston.com) -- A Southwest Airlines passenger jet made an unplanned landing in Manchester, New Hampshire Saturday after hitting a flock of birds during takeoff, airport spokesman Thomas Malafronte reported.

Flight 4055 left Manchester-Boston Regional Airport for Baltimore-Washington International Airport around 8:45 a.m. when it hit a flock of birds. The crew decided to land in Manchester to inspect the aircraft, Malafronte said.

"They elected to ground the flight as a precaution until mechanics could conduct a follow up inspection," he said.

No damage was found, but another airplane was flown in to take the 142 passengers to their destination.

"A rare and unfortunate incident but safety is always the first priority," Malafronte said.
