West Elsdon house fire

An early-morning fire in the Southwest Side's West Elsdon neighborhood injured a man squatting in a vacant home, authorities said.
About 1:45 a.m., an electric heater caught fire in a home in the 5100 block of South Ridgeway Avenue, police said.
Firefighters tracked the flames to a bedroom in the home, fire officials said. A man who had been squatting in the home suffered burns and smoke inhalation and was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center in Oak Lawn, where his condition was stabilized.
