Good morning, Southeast and Southwest Portland! Today I'm going to learn more about the reservoir issue, plan for upcoming projects and eat Pad Kee Mao from the E-San Thai Cuisine food cart around the corner. Also, check back this afternoon for a story about the life of a 106-year-old woman who recently passed away.
In the meantime, here's some news:
Franklin High School will play Friday's game against Madison -- the last game of the regular season -- without leading receiver Bryon Dunn-Abe. Danny Moran reports the senior has a deep thigh bruise.
A first and second grade teacher at Opal Charter School, housed in the Children's Art Museum in Southwest Portland, has been recognized as a top educator in a new book, "American Teacher: Heroes in the Classroom," that profiles 50 teachers around the country. Nicole Dungca reports the author praises Kerry Salazer for “nurturing the imaginations and curiosities of young developing minds.”
A taproom that will likely be the country's most extensive on-tap wine program is coming to Southeast Portland. Michael Russell reports Coopers Hall will be located on Southeast 6th Avenue and pour 40 different wines by the glass and in refillable to-go bottles.
Following the installation of a solar array at the Southwest Community Center last month, city officials are seeking donations through a crowdsourcing campaign called Solar Forward for similar projects, Brad Schmidt reports.
How's this for a rude awakening: KATU reports a van drove into a home in Southeast Portland in the wee hours of Thursday morning, leaving a hole in someone's bedroom wall. Rise and shine.
The Willamette Week reports a $456,000 house and $590,000 visitors center at Powell Butte are "debuting as showcases of undisciplined Water Bureau spending, even as utility rates rise." The $1.1 million dollar project -- approved by city council more than two years ago -- falls on the city's water ratepayers.
There are no general neighborhood association meetings tonight.
That's all for now! Please email me with story ideas and check out my Facebook journalist page. It's a great way to connect with me and get a behind the scenes look at what I'm doing.
