THE FISHING LINE: ( * ) - poor; ( * * ) - fair; ( * * * ) - good; ( * * * * ) - excellent.
(The recent cold snap may or may not adversely affect area fishing. Resulting effects will greatly depend upon cold-weather longevity.)
LAKE SEMINOLE ( * * ): Bass are good. The best fishing is still in the creeks. Flipping and pitching jigs along grass edges is good right now. Worm fishing and crankbait fishing are fair late in the day. On points, slow-rolling spinnerbaits can pay off. Up the rivers, Texas-rigged worms fished in bank-side cover are recommended. Lizards on Carolina-rigs may work on the ledges. Crappies are fair at shallow to mid-range depths in emergent vegetation. Jigs and minnows can produce equally well right now. Bream fishing is good. Warmer weather has increased bluegill and shellcracker activity. Crickets and red wigglers are good bait choices. Catfish are reported as fair and there is sporadic hybrid activity. (three-quarter fish)
LAKE WALTER F. GEORGE ( * * ): Bass fishing is good. Jerkbaits, Carolina-rigged lizards and small crankbaits are producing. Target shallow grass and mid-depth brushpiles. In brush, single-blade spinnerbaits are paying off. Texas-rigged lizards are doing well, as are jig-and-trailer combos. Small crankbaits are working moderately on bass holding in shallow water. If fish get finicky, try a trick worm on a lightly weighted Texas-rig. Crappies are good. Fish shallow up the creeks with minnows and jigs and troll jigs along the drop-offs and creek channels. Catfish are fair, particularly late in the afternoon on flats off the river channel. Hybrids are slow, but some catches are reported in scattered locations. Bream activity is increasing. (half fish)
FLINT RIVER ( * ): Some bass bedding activity is reported and a few early bedding shellcrackers have produced some good catches. Crappies have moved up the creeks in good numbers and are being taken primarily with minnows. Catfishing is steadily improving as the flatheads and channels are now on the move. Many are concentrating near the dams. It is said to be still a bit early for bluegills, but minimal activity has been reported. Stripers have slowed down somewhat. Shoal bass are showing increased activity, with a few larger individuals reported. ((half fish)
LAKE BLACKSHEAR ( * ): Crappies are biting in the backs of creeks and both minnows and jigs are producing at a reasonably consistent rate. Good white bass activity is reported by night fishermen targeting the lights around the docks. The largemouths are in bedding mode and shallow. Bass fishing has been pretty good of late in the shallows, especially around the cypress trees. Bream are showing slow but steady improvement and there has even been some moderate early shellcracker bedding activity. Catfishing, especially for channel cats, is reported as good. (half fish)
