A man and a woman died early Sunday morning when the vehicle they were traveling in hit a utility pole on the Southwest Side, authorities said.
The victims, who both appeared to be in their 20s, were dead on the scene in the 3700 block of South California Avenue in the city's Brighton Park neighborhood, according to Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Hector Alfaro.
They were inside a vehicle that was northbound on California when the driver lost control and hit the pole about 11:35 p.m. Saturday, Alfaro said.
Both victims remain unidentified as of this morning after being pronounced dead at 12:01 a.m. on the scene, according to the Cook County medical examiner's office.
Officers from the police Major Accident Investigation Unit are on the scene.
