Standoff ends in Southwest Bexar County - San Antonio Express

A woman has been shot and her 38-year-old husband is custody after a two-hour standoff with sheriff's deputies and SWAT officers Friday morning at a home in Southwest Bexar County, a spokesman said.

The woman told sheriff's deputies that about 5 a.m. as she slept in their home in the 6000 block of Bexar Canyon Road, she was awakened by her husband physically assaulting her, said Paul Berry, Bexar County sheriff's spokesman.

She said when her husband went to get a gun, the woman grabbed her three young children, tried to leave the house and was shot in the shoulder, Berry said.

Despite her injury, Berry said the woman was able to get to a neighbor's house with her children.

The man attempted to barricade himself in the home as sheriff's deputies and SWAT officers arrived, and voluntarily came out of the house about 7 a.m., Berry said.

The children were not hurt, and the woman was taken to University Hospital with non-life-threatening injuries.

A preliminary look into the suspect's background showed no criminal record, Berry said, adding that the woman told deputies that until this incident, their marriage had no history of domestic violence.
