Southwest faces fine for advertising violation - STLtoday.com

Southwest Airlines faces a $200,000 fine after the U.S. Department of Transportation concluded that it violated advertising rules for promotional fares between Dallas and Branson this year.

The Dallas-based carrier advertised one-way fares of $100 or less for Feb. 14 travel this year but "failed to include a reasonable number of seats" as part of that sale, according to a Department of Transportation statement released today. Further, Southwest advertised $66 one-way fares from Dallas Love Field to Branson between March 1 and March 21, but no seats were available at that price during the sale period, the department said.

“Consumers should be able to trust that the price they see advertised is the price they’ll pay for a seat,” U.S. Transportation Secretary Anthony Foxx said in a statement.
