Southwest All-Stars suffer first loss in World Series - Bakersfield Californian

FULLERTON -- Bakersfield Southwest was hurt by two big innings and lost to Jurupa 23-8 in PONY Baseball Pony-13 World Series play Saturday at Amerige Park.




Jurupa scored nine runs in the second and added 12 in the third.


It was the first loss of the All-Star season for Bakersfield (10-1), which plays La Mirada at 10 a.m. today in an elimination game. The winner plays Jurupa at 4 p.m.


Jack Tobias was 4-for-4 with two RBIs for Bakersfield and Cory Blackburn finished 2-for-3 with an RBI for Bakersfield


Bakersfield has to win both games today to force a semifinal game with Jurupa on Monday.


The Bakersfield Southwest Bronco and Mustang All-Star teams saw their seasons come to an end.


The Bronco squad defeated Chino Hills, 12-0, but lost to Hilo, Hawaii, 5-4, in its bid to make the PONY West Zone championship game.


The Mustang All-Stars also were eliminated in the Zone tournament, losing to Maui, Hawaii, 1-0.


Northwest Bakersfield lost to Laguna, 9-4, in the final of the Cal Ripken Pacific Southwest 12-70 Regionals at the Northwest Bakersfield facility adjacent to Sam Lynn Ballpark.
