KALAMAZOO, Mi. - There was a chilling statement for Southwest Michigan motorists in the U.S. Congress on Tuesday.
As oil executives were questioned about gas prices, one comment came out, according to several news sources: ''The days of $3 per gallon gas are over.''

For now, the prices are far closer to $4 than $3, anyway. On the area list of stations on GasBuddy, fewer than 10 stations were below $3.80 with most of the stations being in the $3.90s.

That means household budgets are going to be squeezed again, just to make a trip to the grocery store.

The lowest price in Southwest Michigan is $3.77 at three stations in Hastings - the Shell on East Greet Street, the BP on West State Street and the Admiral on North Broadway Street.

At least four gas stations in Sturgis are at $3.79, too.

In Kalamazoo and Portage, the lowest price is only $3.89. That's found at the Marathon, Quick Stop and Speedway on Gull Road and the Roadhawk on Stadium Drive. In the South Westnedge Avenue corridor, the Meijer and Admiral have come down to $3.94 while the price for regular is down to $3.91 in the Portage Road/airport corridor.

The stations along West Main Street are still in the mid-$3.90s.

  • $3.87, Citgo, Old U.S. 27.

Around Gun Lake:

  • $3.97, Phillips 66, East Michigan Avenue.
