HUNTSVILLE, Alabama -- Several residents in a southwest Huntsville neighborhood say they were woken up early Monday by popping sounds followed by a loud crash. Two young men were inside the vehicle that caused the commotion, and both had serious gunshot wounds when they crashed, according to police.
Police say that a white Chevrolet Impala slammed into a house's driveway at the intersection of Belvoir Drive and Bluecrest Street close to 2 a.m. The impact was so great the car parked in the driveway was forced up onto the Impala's crumpled hood. Police are not sure which direction the car was traveling when it hit.
Two young men inside the vehicle had gunshot wounds and were taken to Huntsville Hospital in serious condition. Police believe they were shot before they crashed.
The Times' news partner, WHNT News 19, reports one of the teenagers died from his injuries.
Police believe this was connected to a burglary at an occupied apartment about a quarter-mile away on Patton Road.
Police say three people are in custody for questioning. No charges have yet been filed.
