1 dead, 3 hurt in Southwest Side crash - Chicago Tribune




One person was killed and three others were hurt when a driver struck a pedestrian and then caused a multi-vehicle crash on the Southwest Side early this morning, authorities said.


About 12:45 a.m., a vehicle struck a pedestrian in the 4200 block of South Cicero Avenue, police said.


The vehicle then struck a vehicle waiting at a red light on Cicero, causing the second vehicle to strike two others, Chicago Police Department News Affairs Officer Ron Gaines said.


The driver of the first vehicle struck was pronounced dead at Mount Sinai Hospital, according to police and the Cook County medical examiner's office.


The pedestrian was taken to Mount Sinai Hospital, and another driver was taken to Rush University Medical Center.


The driver of the striking vehicle was taken to Advocate Christ Medical Center and was in police custody, police said.
