ROSEVILLE-
Roseville 6th grader Jordan Freitas is walking on clouds. Her nifty necktie design beat about 5,000 others, and will become the official accoutrement for 900 Southwest Airline pilots.
“We get comments about this nationwide. Passengers ask us about wearing these,” Southwest Pilot Wendy Mora said.
The colorful cravat features bags with luggage tags for lots of different airports, and a little shout-out to the artist herself. Freitas’ name is on one of the tags in the illustration on front, and again on the ‘made-by’ tag on back.
She says if she could anywhere, it’d probably be LAX.
“Just for fun and to go to Hollywood or something like that,” Freitas said.
It’s all part of a schools program for Southwest Airlines, to help 6th graders see the possibilities in a career in aviation.
As for Jordan, she’s dreaming of catching a different kind of air.
“I want to play volleyball and be in the Olympics,” Freitas said.
But for now, and for the next year, the flight-deck guys with be sporting her neckties every time they taxi down the runway.
