Lincoln Southwest claimed its first team golf title of the season, winning the Lincoln Public Schools championship Tuesday at Mahoney Golf Course.

The Silver Hawks had two players post 84s and another score 86 to give Southwest three players in the top seven finishers.

Ellie Walstad of Lincoln Southeast won by two strokes with an 81. Elizabeth O’Doherty of Lincoln East was second at 83 and Emma Jacoby of Lincoln North Star was third at 84. MacKenzie Glenn of East, and Lidia Jons and Ellie Wiltfong of Southwest also scored 84 to finish fourth, fifth and sixth, respectively, after scorecard tiebreakers.

“This was a good win for us because it shows we’re putting in the work and effort to improve and play the best we can,” said Southwest coach Jim Danson. “We get a little momentum before districts next week, too.”

The last big tournament before district competition for most of the Lincoln teams is Thursday at the Lincoln East Invite at Highlands Golf Course. The Class A state meet is Oct. 14-15 at Norfolk Country Club.
