Another Broward city is looking into terminating its law enforcement contract with Broward Sheriff's Office because of increased costs.
Broward Sheriff Scott Israel is seeking to increase the BSO budget, partly through county taxes but also through increases in costs to the cities that use BSO deputies for municipal law enforcement.
Southwest Ranches officials agreed late last week to consider other options, namely the city of Davie's police department, after receiving a contract price from BSO that is higher than last year, the town said.
In a letter from town attorney Keith Poliakoff, the town asks the attorney general whether under current laws, it would be legal for Southwest Ranches to contract with Davie for police services.
Deerfield Beach officials also are considering terminating relations with BSO, because of rising costs. Commissioners agreed Tuesday to seek a consultant's financial analysis on whether breaking off from BSO for police and fire services would save the city money.
